RECU DE CARL SCHOMBERG, PORT-AU-PRINCE, HAITI
31 Jan 2005
Mon cher Carl,
Bien a toi,
Carl Schomberg
RECU DE VITER JUSTE, La Petite Haiti, Floride
Mon cher Carl, parlons Pays.

RECEIVED FROM MAYERLINE L., ELIZABETH, NEW JERSEY
Good evening Mr. Fombrun,
My name is Mayerline L. from Elizabeth, N.J. I just came across your website via fouye.com. I would like to compliment you on it. It is very educated and professional. I will definitely introduce it to my friends and family especially to the ones who think that Haitians can't do anything good.
As a young female Haitian who wants to enroll in diplomacy or international relations what can you suggest me, or do you think I should follow my dream on becoming a diplomat? What do you think Mr. Fombrun? I look foward to hear from you soon, Sir.
Thank you and thank you again for sharing your knowledge with us. Keep it up my Haitian brother. Well, well done job!
Mayerline L. (from Jersey)

As a Haitian Doctor, I think this guy (in Canada criticizing Haitians) needs serious help. He is so miserable and so angry and really pathetic. I would not discuss his letter because the content is psychotic and may suggest latent violence. Maybe he forgets to take his pills. Somebody who cares about him should get him to a doctor as soon as soon possible. He should also learn to be polite and sign his letter. Let us hope his cortex can still take over his limbic system. We Haitians wish him well.
Sincerely,

MY ANSWER
I agree 100 per cent with your statement Nadim Salomon, MD He is as much a delinquent as those Haitian delinquent themselves, young and old unfortunately in Canada and on the internet.

FROM Manno Sanon "Toup pou Yo" Haitian Athlete of the Century
Gentlemen,
Thank you to you all for coming to my rescue regarding Sir.Loty’s comments about my using the English language. My intention was not to insult or offend anybody, I was just trying to emphasize a point Mr. Carl Fombrun was making. Mr. Loty seems to suggest that I called myself "Haitian Athlete of the Century", by doing so, Mr. Loty is putting my credibility to question.
I do have a copy of that newspaper " Le Nouvelliste" who conducted that survey en Haiti while I was the head coach of our National soccer team, and a copy is available for whoever desires to request a copy (free of charge), just kidding.
While growing up in Haiti, my parents, who did not speak French, talked to us (my sister and I ) in Creole, but they could not write it. Myself and millions of other kids of my generation, speak the language (creole), but we can not write it. We went to school, but we were taught in French, confusing, isn't it ?
Some of us managed to do our best in that language(French) to survive, same like we do here...in USA, others, used it, (French) to... well, you know what I mean. For all of you out there, I wrote two books (autobiographies)in French, yes, Mr. Loty, they are available for you, if desired, could you believe that I wrote in French?
My self-titled "Haitian Athlete of the Century", like you described it in your comments was not my idea, Mr. Loty, maybe, that title bothers you for untold reasons that myself... maybe some other people would like to know.
Mr. Loty, I wasn't using the English language to deceive people or to lie to them, I was merely pushing the idea that we ( Haitians), before others can respect us, we need to respect ourselves, that was the message, maybe that is not what you'll like to hear.
Mr. Lotty, by attacking my using of English as a mean of encouraging our fellow countrymen and women to love, respect and appreciate each other more, you seem to tell me to shut up if I can't communicate in your favorite language.
Before I forget, Mr. Loty, I mentioned earlier that I wrote two books in French, can you imagine that, my own children ... and grand children could not read them, their own father's...and grand father's athletic career story right there in front of them, and they do not have a clue about what inside, this is sad, and not only for me, but for thousands and thousands of fellow countrymen.
Women are in that same situation, are we rejecting these children, are we saying they are not the sons anddaughters of J.J. Dessalines because they do not speak French, what about the majority back home? Oh do not get me wrong, I do not have any problem with those who received their degree at the universities in French, in Bruxelles,Berlin, Mexico, Madrid, Rome, to name a few.
I am grateful for them, because any achiement they made in life indirectly I am a part of it, why, because we share the same motherland "Haiti". I am proud of my Heritage, I do not have any regrets as an athlete. My teammates and I defended with dignity and courage our country in the land of Adolf Hitler.
Sportively,
Manno Sanon "Toup pou Yo" Haitian Athlete of the Century
FROM SHIRLEY BELOTTE, NEW YORK
Mi dushi Carl,
I must admit that I love learning different languages and am very proud of the fact that I speak English, Creole, French and Spanish. I enjoy learning other languages and understanding other cultures. When I feel like I'm burning out from work in NYC, I just get on a plane and go somewhere foreign to learn about their culture and language.
Last September, I went to Curacao for some rest and I was impressed that curacaolenos spoke more than one language. When I went for ice cream in Willemstad the servers began to speak to me in Papiamento when they realized that I was not a local, they asked me if I spoke Dutch, Spanish or English because they could communicate in either language (Wow!!! I was impressed). After a few days, I knew what Bon Bini (welcome) mi dushi (sweetheart, darling) meant in Papiamento.
Presently, my love for the languages has me consumed with Italian. Thanks to Latin from St. Francois D'Assise in Haiti and Spanish, I find Italian to be very easy and enjoyable. I think that every woman or shopaholic should learn Italian or know enough to shop in Milan.
Every woman must learn " Scusi, dove la via montenapoleone" and "cuanto costa". You are set for the best shopping experience in your life. Via montenapoleone has all the designers you can imagine from Pucci, Cartier, Armani, Hermes, Cerruti, Ferragamo, Cavalli, Gucci and Valentino (the love of my life).
If you have the means, travel, learn different languages and enjoy life to the fullest.
Ciao mio amico,
Shirley Belotte
SHIRLEY DEAREST

FROM ABDULLAH BIN, PORT-AU-RINCE, HAITI
Carl,
I would like to write this in French, but I don't think that my level of proficiency is as adavanced as I like it to be whenever I put myself on display. Nonetheless, let me weigh-in, and if you should be of a mind, you can translate it if you would like to.
Rafaelle Roy did a very good job at answering the unidentified author on very many points. I would like to bring more emphasis to one of them. This should not be construed as an excuse for the negative behavior of those Haitians, who in fact are criminals, but rather as an eyewashing of sorts.
It is always easier to blame perpertrators when neglecting to analyze our own failures. There is a basic law of the universe known as the law of cause and effect. It is highly irrational and unproductive to continue to talk about the symptoms(the effect) without addressing the causes. Admittedly, that might be the easiest approach to be done with any unpleasant experience, whatsoever it might have been.
I suggest that the author take the time to learn about deduction and analysis. Not to insinuate that this person has never been exposed to such a critical necessity in applying judgement to situations in a less superficial manner. I believe that this person is also symptomatic of a social ill. The complex of superiority. The text comes across as from a person who has been waiting patiently to put these nasty Haitians in their place. This is the patience of prejudice.
One isn't comfortable with the general difference in life that has become part of the changing social fabric caused by the inclusion, or rather by the attempted inclusion, of previously excluded segments of society. This discomfort actually is a result from the ill concieved comfort of times past which discounted the humanity of so many millions and millions of Africans and their diaspora. The state of this person's mentality displays the deepest forms of ignorance at work. I don't say ignorance in order to be demeaning. I say it to illustrate that the many positive contributions of those millions and millions remain unnoticed and unspoken, except, so as to perpetuate the myth that everything is
OK in the lives of those milions and millions standing in opposition...How long, how long, how long will this BS go on? It is high time that people like this person begin to be reeducated so as to change their false perception that they have done so much, and are doing so much for those they so long held in disadvantage. Haiti is definitely in a shambles, but reaction to that state of things manifests itself in many ways, not the least of which is this type of untoward behavior for which we are now becoming famous.
The behavior, I once again reiterate, is inexcusable. The attitude that history has treated Haitians favorably and that comparisons between Haitians and other nationalities are justified solely on the basis of one's personal or environmental/community experience is also.
This commentary and others of the same kind, only go to show that racism can continue to rear its ugly head wherever ignorance abounds. I believe that it is time for all concerned, on both sides of the coin, to understand that we are condemned to live on this planet or blessed to live on this planet together.
Would the person that wrote this be willing to sit down and talk about this situation without his/her preconcieved notions? Would that person then be willing to contribute positively to the reeducation of Haitians within their community, as needed to change the socially negative atmosphere which uninformed statements can engender? Would that person be willing to reexamine their own contributions to the society in which they live in, asking themselves if they have done all in their power? And finally, would that person be willing to forgive and be forgiven by those Haitians he/she has attacked? If not, why are we bothering to act civilized? Let's get the guns out and act like we know we're right and we're not backing down. Of course that is foolish...there must be better ways.
Deportation as a policy must not be aimed at specific ethnicities because it produces the same results that everyone is trying to claim that they wish to avoid.
Thank you. I hope that I haven't offended anybody any more than they already might have been.
Signed: Abdullah Bin
Sentidos renovados
