I cover Latin music for the Miami Herald, and I am doing a story on MRP, a Haitian rapper raised in the Dominican Republic. I'm interested in him because I'm curious about how a Haitian artist might be able to bridge the longstanding hostility and problems between Haiti and the D.R. Just to add on to what Mrs. Nader stated, which was that she felt perhaps that Presidential candidate Dumarsais Simeus should respect the Haitian Constitution and wait another five years before running for President of Haiti, I would like to add that he should not wait 5 years doing nothing.
His face, his voice, and his actions...not just in Pont Sonde, should be seen and heard by Haitians in Haiti and the Diaspora. Schools, hospitals and non-profit organizations are in need of assistance and guidance for the most basic needs.
Politicians need to be seen and heard more often, not just during the pre-election period. This is not to say that Mr. Simeus has not been vocal and active in the community and has not given back, because I know for a fact that he has...but his presence as well as the presence and action of all the candidates should be constant.
What I despise the most is when the candidates who lost the election simply disappear. Their post-election "disappearing act" only shows that they did not have the country and its people in mind and at heart, but were only focused on the seat and perhaps the coffers.
I have always staunchly believed that a person with means, meaning a person who already has amassed their own millions "legally" should run for President of Haiti. This alleviates my mind as far as wondering if they will be swayed by the spirit of "sticky fingers" when it comes to government funds.
It also puts my mind at ease that a multi-millionaire will not be swayed by the trinkets and coins of Judah offered to them by drug dealers. Of course, this should not be the only criterion for being President of Haiti. Experience, diligence, an understanding of foreign powers policies of politics and the needs of the people as well as how to implement them are necessary...but the evil desire of theft, money laundering, dancing with the devil and sleeping with the enemy to line personal pockets can be alleviated when it is someone who has no ties or history with any regime and has their own money and money generator outside of Haiti.
The Haitian and Haitian-American youth, the professionals and entrepreneurs over here are watching, I can tell you that. We may be ignored, but we have money, clout and the ability to return to Haiti and assist...as opposed to staying here in the U.S. and letting our sweat and our money be siphoned by Uncle Sam and Auntie Fannie Mae. We're watching, we're waiting, we're hoping.

I LIVE AND WORK IN HAITI.
I own an export factory in Haiti, although the country is in a bad situation and nobody wants to invest, I have chosen to stay instead of closing the plant. Leaving would be very easy; moving to Honduras does not take long. When I realize that at least five hundred people who badly need a job will be left without a minimum salary to buy rice for their families, I have decided to stay and face the everyday bureaucracy of the government.
I have a franchise to receive merchandise to be re-exported, but to get my goods out of customs is the most difficult thing that can happen to a manufacturer. It is agony, while the bureaucrats are creating problems for hard working people, cocaine and bullets are passing easily through the port. When will they understand that the country needs jobs in order to grow?
The government of Prime Minister Latortue promised to make it easy for businessmen to invest, but now, we came to the conclusion that it was all lip service. They are doing worse than the previous regime; we can no longer work in peace. The price of gasoline is going up which makes everything more expensive, and it seems they do not care. According to people in Haiti "They are just here to fill their pockets and leave the good life in Miami".
My government should help Haiti confiscate money stolen and that continues to be stolen on a daily basis by the new people in charge of the country.
At tomorrow’s U.N. conference where leaders from the world will meet, it should be stipulated that any member of any government would be investigated during and after they leave office.
It seems that it is going to be a meeting of crooks in New York unless some definite reforms and decisions are taken to ease the suffering of the millions of poor people leaving on this planet.

¿QUE PASÓ EN EL CASO SERULLE RAMIA?
FUNCIONARIO DE CANCILLERIA Y CONSUL CONSPIRARON PARA HACER SALTAR AL CANCILLER Y AL EMBAJADOR

La pasada semana la prensa dominicana se hizo eco de una información que daba cuenta de que supuestamente el embajador Don José Serulle Ramia habría recibido de parte del Primer Ministro Gerard Latortue 25 o 48 mil dólares para una actividad privada y que la Cancillería Dominicana investigaba el caso.
¿Quien ideó esta maniobra contra el Embajador dominicano en Haití? ¿Cuál fue el pecado de Serulle Ramia para merecer tal atropoyo? ¿Qué sucedió realmente?
Desde hacía dos años la Fundación Ciencia y Arte estaba en Haití preparando una serie de encuentro de solidaridad entre los dos países. En el mes de noviembre del año pasado se celebró la primera Feria Ecoturística Binacional y tal actividad reunió en un encuentro del hermandad a haitianos y dominicanos de la frontera.
El Presidente Leonel Fernández al ver el éxito que llevaba esa actividad, en medio de su organización decidió nombrar a José Serulle Ramia como embajador en Haití.
Inmediatamente, comenzaron las instrigas en su contra, pues había persona que entendían que República Dominicana no debía tener embajador en Haití.
Todo con la idea de mantener una política "apática" contra un país que muchos racistas aborrecen.
Los primeros que hizo un grupo encabezado por el Señor Inocencio García, embajador encargado de la división de relaciones con Haití, fue boicotear el otorgamiento del Beneplácito al Embajador Serulle, y para tales fines buscó ayuda de un viejo funcionario de la Cancillería haitiana que respondía a las directrices del movimiento lavalás y el cual el señor Inocencio había conocido cuando fue Primer Secretario de la misión dominicana en Haití.
La solicitud de reconocimiento del Embajador "se extravió" en el camino, y todo el mundo pensaba que el Gobierno haitiano no contestaría, como se estila en diplomacia, porque no deseaba realmente un embajador en Haití.
Tenemos informes de que fue Guy Alexandre, amigo íntimo del Embajador, quien descubrió la trama y decidió actuar para conseguir una copia de la solicitud en la Embajada de Haití en Santo Domingo y llevarla al Ministerio.
Una vez designado el embajador, el señor García, junto a un Cónsul que está en Haití y a dos altos funcionarios de la Cancillería Dominicana, apostaron al fracaso del Embajador. De ahí que boicotearon el programa de actividades que el embajador había presentado para dinamizar la Embajada.
Las comunicaciones dirigida al Canciller, Don Carlos Morales Troncoso, se quedaban en el camino, de manera que el Canciller comenzó a entender que el embajador no estaba haciendo nada.
Al embajador no se le invitó cuando el Canciller haitiano, Herard Abraham, visitó la República Dominicana y en todas las recepciones, quien aparecía era el Señor García.
El primer problema comenzó cuando el embajador hizo una actividad con políticos haitianos y el señor García hizo un chisme alegando que el embajador se inmiscuía en las cosas de Haití.
Así, las cosas el Canciller llamó a la atención al Señor Embajador, pero todo no quedó allí. El señor Ramia estaba invitado a una conferencia en Montreal y desde Cancillería se manipuló para que quien asistiera fue el señor García. Extrañamente, a esa reunión fue el Cónsul Carlos Castillo. Se dice que también había una española de nombre Rosa, que es muy amiga del señor Garcia. Se decidió entonces terminar con el señor Ramia.
Se planificó la visita del Canciller a Haití, aprovechando que el embajador se iba de vacaciones. En diplomacia esa visita, en ausencia del embajador representaba un duro golpe, y entonces señor García viajó a Haití, un día antes del embajador partir, y de inmediato comenzaron los rumores de que el embajador estaba destituido, porque las comunicaciones que se enviaban para preparar la visita no salían de la Embajada, sino del consulado.
Plan era sencillo: hacer renunciar al embajador. Se regó el rumor de que el Embajador había recibido varios cheques del Gobierno haitiano y que el más grande fue de 68 mil, no de 48 ni de 25. El interés era minarle las bases.
Los complotantes evitaron de que el Canciller visitara la Embajada para dar una señal de malestar.
Los miembros de la Embajada en Haití nunca fueron informados de tal presencia, pero luego el Canciller mandó a buscarlo mientras estaba de partida en el aeropuerto Toussaint Louverture, pero a ellos no se le dejó hablar.
Allí se preparó una especie de rueda de prensa, manipulada en la que asistió sólo un periodista de Radio Caraïbe y éste le preguntó al Canciller qué pensaba sobre la actividad de San Francisco y el Canciller dijo que no sabía de esa actividad, que nunca fue informado.
Claro que nunca fue informado, pero a la actividad asistieron el señor García y el señor Cónsul. La comunicación de la actividad de San Francisco probablemente había sido retenida para que no fuera vista por el Canciller.
A todos eso el señor Ramia no renunció y entonces se pasó a otra etapa del
plan: publicar el cheque. Ellos trataron de obtener una copia del cheque en la Primatura, pero se equivocaron porque el cheque de los 25 mil, que había sido emitido para la actividad de San Francisco, actividad programada mucho tiempo atras, salió del Ministerio de Haitianos Viviendo en el Extranjero y no de la Primatura.
OTRO PLAN CONTRA EL CANCILLER
Hubo una reunió en un restaurante del Malecón, en Santo Domingo, y el señor García dijo tenía un gran apoyo político y que ese plan debía incluir la renuncia del Canciller, que ya se había intentado un plan para hacer un escándalo en uno de los consulados dominicanos por el Canciller Troncoso.
Así fue cómo pusieron US$3,200 dólares en la mesa para hacer un escándalo grande en Haití, dando a entender que el Canciller sabía de todo y que había apoyado a Serulle. Había que dejar claro el hecho de que habían sido 48,000 dólares y no 25 y que tal dinero era para provecho propio de Serulle, y no para una actividad que el había programado diez meses antes, mucho antes de ser embajador.
Al periodista de elviajero. com.do, que es un viejo, Julián Herrera, empleado del Cónsul Carlos Almonte, se le dió 1,200 y el resto era para repartirlo entre periodistas de dos periódicos para que el asunto repercutiera en la prensa nacional. Tenemos informes de que tres periodistas fueron contactados, y que uno de ellos se negó alegando que había sido alumno de Jacqueline Boin.
Finalmente, el asunto salió en elviajero.com.do, donde trabaja Papito Lebrón, quien además es funcionario de la Cancillería y un hombre de confianza del Canciller. Al parecer al señor Lebrón lo engañaron, pues no le explicaron eso iba dirigido al Canciller y le hicieron entender otra cosa.
Luego el asunto salió en Diariolibre y de allí vino el escándalo, pero creemos que la persona de diario libre no está involucrada sino que fue asaltada en su buena fe.
En Haití, la prensa se ha percatado de esta maniobra y el periódico Le Nouvelliste entiende que se trató de un plan para hacer saltar a Serulle debido a su lucha por el diálogo entre los dos países.
En pricipios, el portal MOUN.COM atribuía el plan a Inocencio García junto al Primer Ministro Latortue, pero después se supo que Latortue nada tuvo que ver e incluso emitió un comunicado en el que aclaró que jamás entregó dinero al señor Serulle Ramia.
La prensa haitiana ha dicho que el señor Ramia es víctima de esa campaña, porque no ha aceptado asuntos, como este de un informe que el señor García quería presentar en el caso de la muerte de los tres haitianos en Haina.
Se supo que cuando fueron quemados vivos los tres haitianos el señor García propuso hacer un informe en el que el asunto figuraba cómo cuestión de drogas, lo que causó la molestía del Señor Ramia.
