POSITIVE QUOTE OF THE DAY

When we tire of well-worn ways, we seek for new. This restless craving in the souls of men spurs them to climb, and to seek the mountain view.

REFLEXIONS ON HURRICANE WILMA IN MIAMI, FL.

Painting of Carl’s brother the artiste-peintre Louis Fombrun, popularly known as "Loulou," who passed on, given as a courtesy gift by Carl to photographer Gilbert Saurel.

AN ABRUPT CHANGE FROM FIRST WORLD TO THIRD WORLD in 24 hours.

10 BILLION $ DAMAGES IN FLORIDA.

(by Carl Fombrun)

Monday 24 October 2005 has come and gone after causing havoc in my tropical home sweet home in the middle class Kendall neighborhood, suburb of my beloved Miami, where I live. Life will not be the same but we will smile again.

Carl after hurricane Wilma

The Neptune Society, meaning the grim reapers in the incineration business, will not have yet the satisfaction as for other victims of hurricane Katrina, to cremate that old body of mine which fortunately still has some good parts remaining.

Compared to the tragic outcome of many residents in Haiti, New Orleans, Louisiana and Biloxi Mississippi, I still count my blessings.

Yes, my "garden of Eden" is poorer in beautiful trees, fences, flowers, birds, and bougainvilliers, which kept me connected with memories of my native land Haiti, through mother Nature’s generosity. Mother Nature this time decided to change course. However, I still like to look at my destroyed garden. The sign "Welcome to my Garden" is still up.

Seeing the birds flying through the waning teeth of the storm it rekindled my faith in the rebirth after catastrophy.

Presently, vultures (called "malfinis" in Haitian creole) are having a ball flying through Carl’s Corner’s paradise but they will not have the satisfaction of picking my bones as of now. Alleluia!

Contrary to "third world" countries’ lack of maintenance the clean up has begun in Florida. Things will straighten up in my backyard, if not better than before, but at least in par with the neighborhood that I live in. Let’s move on.

We will smile again

I had the pleasure of receiving a phone call that day from my friend Dumarsais Simeus, Haitian presidential candidate. The timing was appropriate. We had a long talk Dumas and me, regarding his dreams for Haiti and I can certainly testifiy that he is an accomplished individual. I do wish that Haiti will benefit of his knowledge in whatever capacity destiny has in store for him.

It was conforting to witness that Jeb Bush, Governor of Florida, brother of "W," is going all out not to repeat the mistakes in Miami of his brother George the president, in New Orleans.

Weeks after the search for bodies officially was called off remains of hurricane Katrina are discovered daily in one of New Orleans poorest district as per the Herald. Corpses of the Ninth Ward residents are being found everyday. Workers hired by the state remove ossified bodies each day, many of them discovered by residents returning home. The death toll for the hurricane there is at 1,053.

The Democratice Governor of Louisiana and and the black Democratic mayor of New Orleans have their part of responsibilty with George W.Bush included, which he did acknowledge.

Hurricane Wilma has imperiled migrant workers in Florida. Few can afford supplies. Those illegal workers from Guatemala, Mexico, and Haiti have nowhere to go in Florida especially Miami All they have is their lives., that’s all! They do not qualify for U.S. assistance. If someone is handing out meals, they’ll go there but if somebody like the Red Cros is asking you to fill out papers they’will be less likely as per a report in the Miami Herald.

Jeb Bush, Governor of Florida, can not afford to have in Miami, a repeat of the tragic situation in New Orleans, migrants or no migrants The polls of his brother the president are hanging at 39% and no comments, this time "a la W", will be tolerated referring to Michael Brown, ex director of FEMA, : "You’are doing a fine job Brownie."

Alleluia for the voice of the people regardless of the selected elites in this Democracy, to be approved or disapproved by the common people. Moving on!

ABOUT THE MOVIE « KIDNAPPING. »

Dear Carl:

Regarding your critique of the movie

"Kidnappings", I couldn't agree with you more. As a matter of fact I thought you were very generous. I would have given it not 4 but -4.

One correction I'd like to make is that Art Space Productions was not the producer of Kidnappings but Miami Film Group is. Art Space was only hired to host the Media Premiere.

In addition, Art Space President Tamara Beliard is the niece of one of the owner of Miami Film Group, hence the reason they were hired.

Carl and Art Space Production President Tamara Béliard.

Again, Art Space Productions is in no way affiliated with the movie itself. So far Art Space's involvement with Cafe Au Lait and Pawol Chat can attest to their production involvement in only quality materials.
