The 2nd Annual Benefit Gala of the Haitian Heritage Museum last Saturday night, February 25, 2006 at the Parrot Jungle Treetop Ballroom in Watson Island, Florida was a fabulous success.
Our Hosts were TV Personnalities Danielle Knox CBS 4/UPN 33 and Edna Laroche Producer and Host of The New Haitian Generation, a half hour talk show.
Opera singer Deneize Dutton sang the American national anthem and has participated in State Vocal Competition and Festival.
“LA DESSALINNIENE,” THE Haitian National Anthem was played on Bass in three dimensions, by Jael Auguste, Classical Musician. Jael started his musical career at the young age of four, taking piano lessons in Haiti with the well-known pianist Micheline Dalencour. His kindergaten teacher reported to his mother that Jael would often hum Mozart and Beethoven, and that he was always the first to catch on to musical tunes new to the class.
Jael plays the Bass for the New World School of the Arts Conservatory Symphony in Miami and has participated in many special events: the 2002 Christmas concert broadcast on WLRN TV network; the prestigious Chicago Midwest Clinic musical conference in vitational concert in 2003; the rare presentation of Beethoven 9th Symphony at Gusman Center last November.
In April, Jael is invited to perform at the Moscow International Young Soloist Festival, an honor for him and an important milestone in his rapidly evolving career. He will perform as a soloist,. Koussevitzky’s Bass Concerto, accompanied by the Moscow State Symphony Orchestra. In the fall Jael will go to Florida International University of Music to major in String Performance.

A special homage to the Honorable Commissioner Chair Joe A. Martinez was given by the HHM team.
DR. RUDY MOISE received the 2006 HHM Pillar Award given to Executive Board Member Carl Fombrun in 2005.
Daniel Fils-Aimé, President and Founder of the Haitian-American Historical Society Savannah project received the Achievement Award .
My suggestion next year for an award will be the dynamic Haitian-American entrepreneur Wilfrid Belfort, an admirable activist, for tourism to return to Haiti. I will be traveling with Wilfrid next April to Jacmel, a town which is at the vanguard in promoting a positive aspect of the Haitian culture.
A good time was had by an assistance of 400 to 500 people of diverse backgrounds.
The keynote address was given by the State Senator of Illinois, the Honorable Haitian-American Kwame Raoul who has replaced U.S. Senator Barack Obama-D, Illinois.

Dear Friends and Compatriots,
The February 7, 2006 Haitian election is a day of pride for all Haitians. The Haitian people showed unprecedented discipline and courage to vote, many standing in line for up to six hours to cast their ballots.
Sixty-two percent of registered voters participated in this election. I commend all who voted with such grace, dignity, patience and determination.
I congratulate Mr. René Préval, the newly elected President of Haiti. Préval has the wherewithal to bridge the gap between the poor and the rich, between businesspeople and politicians, between the educated and uneducated.
Préval has publicly and privately asked for my assistance in helping him in his new administration. I am committed to working with President Préval’s government as an independent businessman and will focus my efforts on attracting investments to Haiti to create jobs.
I also thank my supporters in Haiti and the Diaspora for their encouragement, perseverance, diligence and hard work in what proved to be a challenging campaign. A special thank you to our American friends who have also encouraged us and supported our campaign.
My campaign was a fight for Haitians everywhere, both in Haiti and in the Diaspora. It was a fight for inclusion and participation to change the future of our beloved country.
But even with two Supreme Court decisions giving me the nod to run for the Presidency of the Republic of Haiti, the electoral council and interim government chose to keep me off the ballot.
But this chapter is now closed, and we must now all look ahead to the future. We must be proud that our candidacy and our campaign will forever change the course of discussion of the Diaspora and the Constitution for the betterment of the country. And this fight is not over.
I continue to be committed to a new Constitution. The current Constitution is outdated and many of its articles discourage foreign investments, and therefore the creation of jobs.
The new constitution must restore the rights of all the Haitians in the Diaspora to participate in the socio-economic development and political affairs of this emerging democracy.
Now, let us not dwell in the past or waste time analyzing Haiti’s issues which all of us can easily recite.
Let us instead put our energies into creating positive change in the present so that all Haitians have the right and means to live productive and dignified lives, and can give their children and grandchildren the means to rise above the poverty of today and reach their potential in the future.

Cher Monsieur Fombrun,
Je vous félicite du fait que vous soyez un vrai démocrate, donnant à chacun une chance de dire ce qu’il pense, même le menteur monsieur Mentor.
Etant descendant d’arabe, j’ai été déçu de lire un homme aussi amer que monsieur le Noiriste, le raciste Alfred Mentor. Ce monsieur pour moi est un dinosaure, bourré de complexes et de préjugés contre les noirs, les mulâtres et surtout les arabes.
Ce monsieur, qui se dit écrivain et professeur (pauvres élèves), a beaucoup de problèmes avec sa personne. Il doit aller voir un psychiatre le plus vite que possible pour ne pas commettre un suicide, il voit la vie en noir.
Les arabes fuyaient les turcs qui les dominaient en quête d’une vie meilleure comme l’a fait monsieur Mentor et tant d’autres citoyens haïtiens. Les fils d’immigrants arabes sont partout en Amérique Latine, ou ils sont considérés comme citoyens à part entière du pays ou ils sont nés. En Haïti un arabe n’est pas haïtien (ne l’a jamais été, et ne le sera jamais).
Un mulâtre ne peut jamais devenir président depuis 1946, les votes sont pour les noirs.
Les gens comme monsieur Mentor rendent notre pays laid, pauvre et sale. Les Noiristes sont au pouvoir depuis 60 ans, qu’est-ce qu’ont-ils apporté ? Nous avons beaucoup trop de Mentor dans notre nation.
J’ai laissé Haïti depuis plus de 20 ans à cause des Alfred Mentor et je ne compte plus y retourner. Je laisse le pays pour la racaille, la négritude, les Noiristes et les chimères du type de Mentor. Et je dis comme Depestre Adieu à la Négritude !
Il serait bon de rappeler aux Noiristes qu’à leur arrivée l’île était habitée par des indigènes, que les noirs aussi sont des immigrants…comme nous. Haïti nous appartient à tous ; et jusqu'à ce qu’on puisse se mettre d’accord sur ce point le pays ne pourra jamais progresser.
En réalité, monsieur Alfred Mentor est en guerre contre lui-même : Il est ANTI-TOUT.

Mon interview sur « Franchement Fombrun » avec l’historien/écrivain Alfred Mentor à la HTN sera présentée le Mardi 1er Mars 2006 à 9 heures du soir, et le Samedi 4 Mars 2006 à 3 heures de l’après-midi.
Alfred Mentor m’a promis son autre livre avec une préface de Lesly Francois Manigat.
Je remercie encore Alfred Mentor pour l’envoi de son livre qui pour moi devient une lourde responsabilité quand ce dernier est dédicacé de la facon suivante à ma personne : « À Carl Fombrun, en hommage à un journaliste d’un très haut nouveau professionnel et à un intellectuel distingué qui fait honneur à la mémoire de son Père. » Merci, Alfred.
Alfred Mentor a osé révéler ou opiner sur des sujets qui sont tabou en Haiti. Je respecte son courage, et il a droit à ses opinions. Cependant, je le souligne de nouveau, nos perspectives, ici et là, ne sont pas les mêmes, et je ne saurais rejoindre l’auteur à tout bout de champ, bien que son livre dans sa totalité est d’importance. Vive la différence dans la civilité.
Une parenthèse, j’ai été par exemple attristé par l’intolérance d’Alfred Mentor sur les pères de la patrie comme Pétion et Boyer en déclarant qu’ils « n’ont rien foutu pendant 36 ans de règne. » Par ailleurs, Alfred Mentor n’a aucune révérence pour les nègres Canga, Soussou, Mandingue, Haoussa, Congo tout en ayant de la complaisance pour les nègres Yoruba, les Woloff, les Ibo, les Dahomet, les Arada, les Fon, les Nago et les Toma. Il les a baptisés du nom « de bons nègres de Guinée. »
Le livre est riche en plusieurs remarques interessantes et que je soutiens. Il y a parfois des dessous de la « petite histoire » influencant chaque écrivain. Je me demande, par exemple, quand Alfred déclare que « le fondateur de la République Alexandre Pétion avait fait décapiter à la prison de Port-au-Prince dans la nuit du 23 au 24 octobre 1806, le Général Victor-Etienne Mentor, ex-Secrétaire de Dessalines et l’Adjudant Général Boisrond-Tonnerre, » s’il n’y avait pas un lien de parenté, et de là sa totale condamnation du règne de Pétion qui fut pleuré nationalement à sa mort ? Qu’on le veuille ou pas nos affinités influencent nos écrits, et nous sommes souvent victimes de notre environnement.
Bref, dans sa généralité, le livre vaut la peine d’être lu, et je le recommende à tous ceux et celles qui désirent faire face à L’HAITIANNITÉ dans toute sa nudité.
Alfred Mentor est mon invité sur « FRANCHEMENT FOMBRUN » Haitian Television Networks of America, le mercredi premier mars 2006 à 9 heures du soir, pour être répété le samedi 4 mars à 3 heures de l’après-midi.
Entre temps, des extraits de son livre sont postés objectivement sur le « Coin du Livre » du CDC.

L’haitien a tendance à se complaire dans ses erreurs même s’il en est conscient. Il est aussi un instable… En politique, il ne croit pas en la réconciliation. Il est trop méfiant. Quand son esprit est obsédé par une idée fixe, il lui arrive difficilement de changer d’avis…
Haiti est un pays où presque tous les intellectuels se croient présidentiables. Ils s’investissent totalement dans les activités politiques… « La politique en Afrique a toujours été l’ appât de tous les ambitieux avides de gloire et de richesses. » B.D. Kalongo…
DANS LE LIVRE “L’HAITIANNITÉ”
SUR ARISTIDE
L’Haitien a une conception étroite et étriquée de la démocratie. Pour lui, elle est synonyme de faire à sa guise lorsqu’il détient l’autorité….
La malice populaire dit que les lavalassiens sont très avares, très chiches et tès pingres. Ils mangent seuls et uniquement de la viande moulue. De cette facon, quand ils se lèvent de table, ils n’ont pas d’os à laisser aux chiens. Les méchantes langues racontent aussi que même les rats, quand ils sortent d’une cuisine lavalassienne, ont toujours les larmes aux yeux parce qu’ils n’ont rien trouvé à manger.
Aristide ne ménage personne, même le blanc et les pays amis, tels que la France et les Etats-Unis qui l’ont toujours soutenu et prótégé…Il ne fait pas confiance aux nègres haitiens.
Aristide a commandité des actes de vandalisme contre presque toutes les entreprises de presse : Télé-Haiti, RFI ; à Boutilliers, le 13 Janvier 2004, il téléguida le sabotage des émetteurs de 8 stations de radio.
L’homme est dur, méchant et rancunier…Pour bien des analyses politiques, Aristide et Duvalier se ressemblent comme deux gouttes d’eau.
Après la chute de la dynastie des Duvalier, on pensait qu’Haiti allait avoir une nouvelle ère…Hélas ! On s’était trompé. Le régime d’Aristide est bien une catastrophe nationale…
Tout au long de notre histoire, nombre de chefs d’Etat se sont dotés, indépendamment de l’armée, d’une force parallèle, entièrement à leur dévotion. Soulouque avait les « Zinglins », Geffrard les « Tirailleurs de la Garde, » et Duvalier la « Milice Civile. » Comme eux Aristide avait ses O.P. Mais contrairement à ses prédecesseurs, en embrigadant et en armant des adolescents délinquants pour en faire les instruments de sa politique de terreur, il a poussé sa fourberie jusqu'à l’extrême limite. Cet homme est un infâme imposteur.
