Carl,
I wanted to ask you to allow me to render homage to my cousin Mario Aguiar.
Mario Aguiar is an example of what has gone wrong in Haitian society. He was as determined a man as there ever was but was caught in the vicious circle that conspires against Haitians trying to live within the boundaries.
Mario was constantly in search of work but due to the economic situation of the country, as opposed to any personal lack of competence on his part, was unable to find employment.
Mario was a caring father and would do anything for his family...except stop drinking. Mario's spirit was seemingly indomitable, but nature being nature, would eventually under great strain, cede to the problems continually engulfing him.
Mario had enormous talent and was surrounded by so many other family members equally or more talented, that he was in a natural state of competitiveness within his own family, causing perhaps a certain internal shame based upon the apparent failure he was undergoing. The family continued to support him (especially Nelsy Boyer his sister and her immediate family headed by Dr. Victor Boyer, her great dedicated husband).
Mario was a patriot of the highest pedigree as are so many other of our family members. Mario couldn't give up on Haiti, even as (modern) Haiti was in the process of turning him against himself through the use of alcohol, eventually blurring his focus on reality, so essential to survival in the present environment. He jsut wanted to find a way to get back into the action of taking care of his family while making a contribution to his country.
Mario is a hero who didn't give up his humanity towards any others hwom he may ahppen to have sen needed it at any time, even at his own expense. Mario is a hero who won't be cited when they write about heroes, but Mario is part of what used to be right with Haiti. He might have lived in the wrong time frame...how else can this tragedy be explained?
Mario my cousin, may Allah bless your soul and pardon you for your offenses.
Mario my cousin, may the good that was in your heart be somehow transmitted to the people of this nation so that the effect will help straighten the mess out.
Mario my cousin, may you always be bathed in the love I have for you.

IL ÉTAIT UNE FOIS…
Souvenirs d’ANACAONA au Jackie Gleason Theater, Miami Beach, Floride
Il était une fois, une île ou tous les différents sentiments vivaient : le Bonheur, la Tristesse, le Savoir, ainsi que tous les autres, l'Amour y compris.
Un jour on annonça aux sentiments que l'île allait couler. Ils preparèrent donc tous leurs bateaux et partirent.
Seul l'Amour resta.
L'Amour voulait rester jusqu'au dernier moment. Quand l'ile fut sur le point de sombrer, l'Amour décida d'appeler à l'aide.
La Richesse passait à côté de l'Amour dans un luxueux bateau.
L'Amour lui dit, "Richesse, peux-tu m'emmener?"
"Non car il y a beaucoup d'argent et d'or sur mon bateau. Je n'ai pas de place pour toi."
L'Amour decida alors de demander à l'Orgueil, qui passait aussi dans un magnifique vaisseau, "Orgueil, aide-moi je t'en prie !" "Je ne puis t'aider, Amour. Tu es tout mouillé et tu pourrais endommager mon bateau."
La Tristesse étant à côté, l'Amour lui demanda, "Tristesse, laisse-moi venir avec toi."
"Ooh... Amour, je suis tellement triste que j'ai besoin d'être seule !"
Le Bonheur passa aussi à coté de l'Amour, mais il était si heureux qu'il n'entendît même pas l'Amour l'appeler !
Soudain, une voix dit, "Viens Amour, je te prends avec moi." C'etait un vieillard qui avait parlé.
L'Amour se sentit si reconnaissant et plein de joie qu'il en oublia de demander son nom au vieillard. Lorsqu'ils arrivèrent sur la terre ferme, le vieillard s'en alla.
L'Amour réalisa combien il lui devait et demanda au Savoir
"Qui m'a aidé ?"
"C'était le Temps" repondit le Savoir.
"Le Temps ?" s'interrogea l'Amour.
"Mais pourquoi le Temps m'a-t-il aidé ?"
Le Savoir, sourit plein de sagesse, et répondit :
"C'est parce que Seul le Temps est capable de comprendre combien l'Amour est important dans la Vie."

En attendant que soit communiqué aux lecteurs du CDC, le nom d’une librairie à Montréal ou à Ottawa où l’on peut se procurer le dernier beau livre de Michelle Voltaire Marcelin dont quelques extraits, publiés sur le site du CDC, ont été par le ton à la fois irrévérencieux, léger, ironique et charmant du livre, la cause d’émotions plaisantes et de délices esthétiques, le Sénat romain et le peuple de Rome ont décidé que le sieur Carl Fombrun doit continuer à en publier sur le site du CDC au moins deux autres extraits.
Ordre est aussi fait au sieur Fombrun de puiser dans les réserves inépuisables de ses souvenirs (ou de ses ancêtres) des pistes pouvant permettre aux lecteurs d’identifier à quelle période dans le temps se situe cette société haitienne dont l’auteur Voltaire Marcelin semble en faire la chronique dans le livre.
