BENAZIR BHUTTO, 54

Benazir Bhutto in front of a poster of her father, Zulfikar Ali Bhutto,

after she won first parliamentary elections in 1988.

Benazir Bhutto (IPA: [beːnɜziːr bʰʊʈʈoː]; June 21, 1953December 27, 2007) was a Pakistani politician. Bhutto was the first woman elected to lead a Muslim state, having been twice elected Prime Minister of Pakistan. She was sworn in for the first time in 1988 but removed from office 20 months later under orders of then-president Ghulam Ishaq Khan on grounds of alleged corruption. In 1993 Bhutto was re-elected but was again removed in 1996 on similar charges, this time by President Farooq Leghari.

Bhutto went into self-imposed exile in Dubai in 1998, where she remained until she returned to Pakistan on 18 October 2007, after reaching an understanding with President Musharraf by which she was granted amnesty and all corruption charges were withdrawn.

She was the eldest child of former prime minister Zulfikar Ali Bhutto, a Pakistani of Sindhi descent, and Begum Nusrat Bhutto, a Pakistani of Iranian-Kurdish descent. Her paternal grandfather was Sir Shah Nawaz Bhutto, who came to Larkana Sindh before partition from his native town of Bhatto Kalan, which was situated in the Indian state of Haryana.

She was assassinated on 27 December 2007, in a combined suicide bomb attack and shooting during a political rally of the Pakistan Peoples Party in the Liaquat National Bagh in Rawalpindi Ex-government spokesman Tariq Azim Khan said that, although it appeared that she had been shot, it was unclear whether her wounds had been caused by a shooting or shrapnel from the bomb.

LIVE AUDIO REMARKS BY

CARL FOMBRUN

pronounced on Thursday 27 December 2007:

Here I go again ! Good morning, Hallan and Robert.

The subject for today is:

LIFE WITHOUT HOPE

(adapted from great writings)

It is far too easy to get bogged down in the daily grind of life. If your life includes all the normal things like family, job, church and community responsibilities it can get trying enough. Add to that mix, health issues which can send your debt and stress to screamingly high levels, and you have a life that can easily be a little low on the Hope meter.

Life is life - we were put here on this mortal plane to grow. We can't grow if life is easy. It is really as simple as that and Hope springs eternal.

Here are a few famous quotes on HOPE to get us going:

The capacity for Hope is the most significant fact of life. It provides human beings with a sense of destination and the energy to get started.

Enthusiasm is the yeast that makes your hopes rise to the stars. Enthusiasm is the sparkle in your eyes, the swing in your gait, the grip of your hand, the irresistible surge of will and energy to excite your ideas.

Fear less, hope more; eat less, chew more; whine less, breathe more; talk less, say more; hate less, love more; and all good things are yours.

He that lives in Hope dances without music.

Hold your head high, stick your chest out. You can make it. It gets dark sometimes, but morning comes.... Keep Hope alive.

Hope begins in the dark, the stubborn Hope that if you just show up and try to do the right thing, the dawn will come. You wait and watch and work: you don't give up.

Hope...is the companion of power, and the mother of success; for he who hopes has within him the gift of miracles.

I am not an optimist, because I am not sure that everything ends well. Nor am I a pessimist, because I am not sure that everything ends badly. I just carry Hope in my heart.

Hope is the feeling that life and work have a meaning. You either have it or you don't, regardless of the state of the world that surrounds you.

Life without Hope is an empty, boring, and useless life. I cannot imagine that I could strive for something if I did not carry Hope in me.

I simply can't build my hopes on a foundation of confusion, misery and death...

Man is a creature of Hope and invention, both of which belie the idea that things cannot be changed.

Men and women are limited not by the place of their birth, not by the color of their skin, but by the size of their Hope.

No matter how difficult life can be the most important thing is to live it with Hope.

Of all the forces that make for a better world, none is so indispensable, none so powerful, as Hope. Without Hope people are only half alive. With Hope they dream and think and work.

People who build Hope into their own lives and who share Hope with others become powerful people.

There are no hopeless situations, only people who think hopelessly.

When you do nothing, you feel overwhelmed and powerless. But when you get involved, you feel the sense of Hope and accomplishment that comes from knowing you are working to make things better.

Whether we be young or old,
Our destiny, our being's heart and home,
Is with infinitude, and only there;
With Hope it is, Hope that can never die,
Effort and expectation, and desire,
And something evermore about to be.

Thank you Hallan, Robert and everyone.  Happy New Year 2008 to all !

All the best,

Carl
