The subject for today is:

FRIENDSHIP AND CAMARADERIE

(adapted from different writing sources)

History and life are filled with stories of friendship and camaraderie, two words which have different meanings. At times, we get so excited at the prospect of having a new social outlet, that we are mistaking casual acquaintances for friends. Just because we interact with a person everyday does not necessarily make that person a friend. People may establish social relationships with people they work with but once the working relationship is over it may come to an end. There is a tendency to consider people we work with on a daily basis as true friendships, which are actually companionships on the job. The quality of the interaction should be the true measure of how close one is to another individual. Friendship is rare, where Camaraderie is current. There is a difference between the two meanings, where Friendship can become a bond and Camaraderie may emphasize unity, altruism, harmony, and companionship. Camaraderie is the ability to get along. Good will is built on the foundation of camaraderie and on the dependence upon one another.

"What is Friendship? A single soul dwelling in two bodies". - Aristotle

Perhaps the one relation that has survived the trials and tribulations of time and has still remained unconditional is friendship. A unique blend of affection, loyalty, love, respect, trust and loads of fun is what describes the true meaning of friendship between two individuals. Similar interests, mutual respect and strong attachment with each other are what friends share between each other. These are just the general traits of a friendship. To experience what is friendship, one must have true friends, who are indeed rare treasures.

Different people have different definitions of friendship. For some, it is the trust in an individual that he / she won't hurt you. For others, it is unconditional love. There are some who feel that friendship is companionship. People form definitions based on the kind of experiences they have had. This is one relation that has been nurtured since times immemorial. There are famous stories about friends in mythologies of different religions all over the world. They say a person who has found a faithful friend has found a priceless treasure.

Psychologically speaking, friendship may be defined as "a dynamic, mutual relationship between two individuals. As children become friends, they negotiate boundaries within which both partners function". This helps them to function like healthy individuals in life as they learn to draw a line as and when needed in a relation. This greatly helps in the emotional development of an individual. However, any relation needs constant nurturing and development from all the people that are involved in one. Friendship cannot survive if one person makes all the effort to sustain it without any mutual recognition from others.

Since friendship starts the moment a child begins socializing, the kind of friends that the child chooses should be taken care of till the time he / she learns to differentiate between right and wrong. Wrong peers or lack of socializing can lead to severe psychological traumas and disorders, finally leading to social maladjustment. The correct peer group is essential for the development of the personality of a child. Both positive and negative experiences refine the personality of the individual. Thus it is essential that we find friends who are compatible on an emotional and psychological basis.

Thank you Hallan, thank you Robert, thank you everyone. Have a nice day.

All the best,

A PROUD GRANDMOTHER

CARL’S PROUD GRAND AUNT.

Tante Cécile, I remember you well…

Sarah Hussein Obama reminds me of my wonderful, no-nonsense grand aunt, “Tante Cécile”, (my grandfather’s sister on my mother’s side), who lived to a ripe old age close to the magic number of 100. My grand aunt Cécile was a financially well-off black lady, and generous with her many siblings. She did not own a car. From her home in the suburbs of Port-au-Prince, Haiti, she would walk every day downtown, under the hot tropical sun, straight as an arrow, dressed all in black, black hat, black shoes, holding a black umbrella to protect her against the rays of the sun. “Tante Cécile” was popularly called “Madame Donna” and I remember well her affectionate hugs, as a youngster – while kissing me, the feeling of her (five o’clock shadow) beard against my cheeks.

Memories are made of this.

WHEN BARACK OBAMA BECAME A SENATOR

HIS REPLACANT HAS BEEN

A HAITIAN-AMERICAN

Kwame Raoul Haitian Immigrant's Son Kwame Raoul
replaced Barack Obama in Illinois Senate

Haitian Immigrant's Son Kwame Raoul replaced Barack Obama in Illinois Senate http://www.senatedem.state.il.us/raoul/

HYDE PARK , ILLINOIS - While many Blacks around the world still 'cheered' Barack Obama as the first African-American elected to the United States Senate in the 21st Century, and the fifth one in US history to serve in the nation's highest legislative body, Haitians in Illinois were very proud because the son of Haitian-born immigrants Marie Thérèse Raoul and late Janin Raoul, M.D., Kwame Raoul, was appointed by the Democrats to lead the 13th District as its new state Senator, filling the seat left vacant by Obama.

Kwame Raoul, a senior attorney for the City Colleges of Chicago , a lifelong resident of Hyde Park, was chosen by Democratic committeemen to replace Barack Obama in the Illinois Senate.

Born in Chicago , Illinois on September 30, 1964, Kwame Raoul was the only candidate who had experience running for office, which may have been the deciding factor in his being chosen.

As he accepted the 13th legislative district seat, Raoul seemed stunningly similar to the man he was replacing. Wearing a tailored dark suit and red tie, Raoul held his 4-year-old daughter, Mizan, who clutched her father much like Obama's daughters clung to him during his campaign.

Kwamé Raul replaced Illinois U.S. Senator Barak Obahama,

who was the occupant of that post in the State Legislature.
