May 2008 Issue, The Progressive Because, as you may have possibly heard, the Democratic Presidential candidates did not campaign in Miami, where I live, and they, as of now, are not having a revote here, I am one of a handful of people with an Obama ’08 bumper sticker glued to the back of my car.
In a city filled with exotic SUVs and flashier automobiles, my small Toyota Echo inspires conversation wherever I go.
Though I have published a few books, I am not used to so much attention.
In addition to the occasional supportive honking and thumbs-ups, these are the five most frequent inquiries to my bumper sticker and my now, oft-repeated responses to them.
*Q:* Wherever did you get it?
*A:* It was smuggled across state lines.
This is true.
My bumper sticker came to me via a friend who’d been telling my husband and me to prepare to campaign for Obama soon after the Senator spoke at the Democratic National Convention four years ago.
The day Barack Obama declared his actual candidacy and the stickers were printed, my friend got a bunch of them sent from the Obama headquarters in Chicago and distributed them to a few of us down here in Miami.
Who knew my bumper sticker would be campaigning harder than I would?
*Q:* Did you know that his middle name is Hussein?
*A:* Quick, what’s your middle name?
Usually, it’s something embarrassing that the person does not want to share with a total stranger.
Those who do own up to their own middle names eventually admit that their parents could not be expected to be seers and predict that it might one day become unpopular.
I then add that my middle name is Rosa, and then say, “Look, I’m not exactly blooming in Spanish, am I?” *Q:* We’ll have a race war if he wins.
*A:* Does that mean we can look forward to a gender war if Hillary Clinton turns out to be the nominee and the President of the United States?
No one’s ever really sure what to say to that one, even though one teenage girl fidgeting at her mother’s side in the supermarket parking lot did say, “A gender war might be kind of cool.” *Q:* He’s all talk and no substance.
*A:* Look at what the “substance” that people voted for the last two times got us into: A disastrous war.
A looming recession, if it isn’t already here.
And we got mispronounced words on top of it.
“Oh the horror!” as Joseph Conrad might say.
Actually one woman in a mall parking lot turned her nose up at me and pointing at my bumper sticker actually shouted, “The horror!” *Q:* He will be killed if elected.
*A:* I can’t be glib about this one because the people who say it to me are always so earnest.
Often they are older men and women, many of whom have lived through the civil rights era and its many assassinations.
“There are ‘Who Killed Obama?’ sweatshirts being sold in one shop in Manhattan,” one woman tells me.
We have to hope, I say, that we live in a truly different age, where these other deaths paved the way for this dream to live.
All know is that whether or not Senator Obama captures the Democratic nomination, my sticker is here to stay.
I am supporting him because this country desperately needs a change of leadership and that change needs to be ground-breaking.
We need to be stirred out of our current apathy in a way that our neighbors’ foreclosures and a nearly $4 gallon of gas still hasn’t managed to.
I am supporting him because the prospect of my daughter’s grandchildren having to show up for that hundredth year in Iraq terrifies me.
At least Obama had the sense to oppose the war even when doing so risked getting painted by the unpatriotic brush.
I am supporting him because, frankly, the win-at-all-cost mentality of the other side disgusts me.
I am a feminist who is bothered by the double-entendre of the 3 a.m.
phone call, which leaves hanging in the air the not so subliminal suggestion that one has a more experienced spouse who might also answer in the dead of night should terrorists attack.
To use fear-mongering to win a primary suggests to me that it might erode a Presidency, and we have had enough of that.
I am tired of hearing a politician tell me in a political speech that I should not pay attention to political speeches, that they are just “words.” Speeches can wound or heal, as shown by both Reverend Jeremiah Wright’s YouTube snippets and Obama’s eloquent response.
Both men’s speeches, as different as they are, offer us a unique opportunity to have a true dialogue on privilege and race and religion in a way that we never had before.
As an educator, a person who works with young people, and who works with words, I am also heartened to see a large number of young men and women find their own political voice in a way that they haven’t in a very long time.
Of course, one can never be sure that any politician will follow through with what he or she promises in the heat of battle, but I believe that Barack Obama has a better idea of what it means to be poor, uninsured, and unemployed, as an increasing number of Americans are these days.
He has lived abroad and knows what it is to be an outsider both within and outside this country, a fact recently brought to our attention by the purposeful misuse of those images of him in African garb.
I sometimes mourn the 2000 Al Gore Presidency that might have been.
Here in the state of Florida, with our voting irregularities, we handed the upkeep of our environment to big oil and possibly unknowingly chose war over peace.
I fear that we will once again choose legacy and complacency for God knows how many more years.
But we can and must do better, and until my bumper sticker fades into the Florida sun, this is what it’s meant to say.
CARL’S CORNER EDITORIAL CHOICE Hillary has cynically turned to the one argument she has left: RACE The Guardian on Monday April 28 2008 She failed to convince the electorate of her own viability.
Now her team claims that voters won't back a black candidate.
It is one of the enduring paradoxes of American racism that those black Americans most likely to exercise their full rights as citizens - to vote, to stand, to speak out - are the most likely to be branded as unpatriotic.
"Of course the fact that a person believes in racial equality doesn't prove that he's a communist," said the chairman of a loyalty review board, one of the McCarthyite kangaroo courts that sat in judgment of possible communists, in the 50s.
"But it certainly makes you look twice, doesn't it?
You can't get away from the fact that racial equality is part of the communist line." Assuming that African-Americans could not possibly work out that white supremacy was not in their interests by themselves, their detractors routinely accused them of acting under influences both foreign and malign.
The FBI wasted millions of dollars and hours trying in vain to prove that Martin Luther King was a communist.
For those who would not know their place and were not assassinated, the punishment was often the revocation of whatever rights of citizenship they had.
Already denied the vote, freedom of movement and association, Paul Robeson was refused a passport in 1950 and confined to the US.
When his lawyers asked why, they were told that "his frequent criticism of the treatment of blacks in the United States should not be aired in foreign countries".
In 1963 the intellectual and activist WEB Dubois was similarly grounded without passport privileges and so moved to the recently liberated Ghana.
The struggle for racial equality in America has always essentially been a battle for full citizenship.
In a country founded on the principles of the enlightenment and built on the backs of slaves, it has long exposed the tension between the country's promise and its practice.
The founding fathers held both that all men were equal - and that a slave was worth three-fifths of a man.
Sooner or later, the nation would implode under the weight of these constitutional contradictions.
It took the best part of 200 years for the law to catch up.
In Barack Obama's candidacy we are now learning how far America's political culture has come in this regard and how far it still has to go.
Because, for all the misty-eyed liberal talk of him ushering in a post-racial era, the past few weeks have seen Obama fighting not just for the nomination but for his patriotic legitimacy.
Constantly questioning his national loyalty and obfuscating his religious affiliation, both the media and his opponents have sought to cast him not only as anti-American but un-American and at times even non-American.
His bid to transcend race appears to be crashing on the rocks of racism.
"Race is intertwined with a broader notion that he is not one of us," Andrew Kohut, director of the Pew Research Centre, told the New York Times.
Pew conducted an extensive examination of voter attitudes, particularly among Democrats who have an unfavorable view of Obama.
"They react negatively to people who are seen as different." The point here is not whether white people are prepared to vote for him.
First, they clearly are.
Of the 10 whitest states to have voted so far, Obama has won nine.
And there are countless reasons why people don't back him that have nothing to do with race - not least that they prefer another candidate on their merits.
At issue is the insidious and racist manner in which his candidacy is now being framed as that of a nefarious, foreign interloper whose allegiance to his country is inherently inauthentic and instinctively suspect.
Some of these charges have long emerged from familiar and predictable places.
As early as last year, Rupert Murdoch's Fox News falsely claimed that he had attended an Islamist madrasa while a young boy in Indonesia.
When rightwing radio hosts refer to him they generally emphasize and repeat his middle name - Hussein - even though Obama rarely uses it.
But soon these attacks shifted from the political margins to the mainstream.
During the recent ABC debate, Obama was grilled about his refusal to wear an American flag tiepin.
One of the moderators asked Obama of his former pastor, Jeremiah Wright: "You do believe he's as patriotic as you are?" Having given up on the African-American vote, the Clintons have clearly decided that it makes more electoral sense to collude with these attacks than it does to raise the tenor of the discussion and challenge them.
During the ABC debate, Hillary applauded the line of questioning.
"You know, these are problems, I think these are issues that are legitimate and should be explored." Being foreign, Muslim or unpatriotic should not be treated as slurs.
But in a post 9/11 framework, the Clintons know full well how these allusions will be understood and what the consequences might be.
When asked whether Obama was a Muslim, Hillary said that he wasn't: "There is nothing to base that on - as far as I know." Three days after Obama made his landmark speech on race, Bill Clinton said of a potential match-up between Hillary Clinton and McCain: "I think it would be a great thing if we had an election year where you had two people who loved this country and were devoted to the interest of this country.
And people could actually ask themselves who is right on these issues, instead of all this other stuff that always seems to intrude itself on our politics." The implication was that Obama doesn't love his country and all this "racial" stuff is just getting in the way.
All this does have an effect.
By February, 80% of Americans had heard rumors that Obama was Muslim.
Even after the furor over the Rev Wright, one in 10 Democrats still believed this.
A recent Pew poll showed that the only character trait on which Obama loses to Clinton is patriotism.
Exit polls in Pennsylvania revealed that 18% of Democrats said that race mattered to them in this contest - and just 63% of them said that they would support Obama in a general election.
Unable to beat Obama on delegates and still unlikely to beat him in the popular vote, Hillary Clinton has just one strategy left - to persuade super-delegates that Obama is unelectable.
She has tried branding him as inexperienced and slick-tongued, and neither of those have worked.
At this stage she has just one argument left: his race.
For several months now, her aides have been whispering to whoever would listen that America would never elect a black candidate.
In desperation, some are now raising their voices.
But their accusations are not only cynical - by most accounts they also seem to be wrong.
It seems they have underestimated the potential of the American electorate.
Polls show that in the states won with less than a five-point margin in 2004 Obama does far better than Clinton against McCain.
The problem is not that Hillary Clinton is still in the race.
She has every right to be.
It is that she is running the kind of race that she is.
Having failed to convince voters of the viability of her own candidacy, she is now committed to proving the un-viability of his.
Hillary once said it takes a village to raise a child.
Now she seems determined to destroy the village in order to save it.
g.younge@guardian.co.uk Senator McCain: Stop Insulting Women After the Senate recently failed to get the 60 votes necessary to force an up-or-down vote on the Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act, Senator John McCain said that widespread gender-based pay inequity isn't due to discrimination.
In his view, women just need more " education and training" to close the wage gap.
We think women need equal rights under the law.
Lilly Ledbetter worked 19 years at Goodyear before she learned the men at her level were earning far more.
Eventually she sued, and the case went all the way to the Supreme Court where five male justices ruled her claim invalid because she filed it more than 180 days after the date when the discrimination first started.
Now, Senator McCain wants to stop legislation to correct this injustice -- and in the process, roll back 50 years of women's rights.
Lilly Ledbetter and women across the country are not only paid less when they have the same education and same training, but also for doing the exact same job as men.
The only difference between men and women in the workplace is women bring home less money to take care of their families.
Senator McCain should know better.
Tell him to take back his sexist statement and stop blocking an up or down vote on the Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act.
Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act Committee The Clock is Ticking for an Attack on Iran.
by Dave Lindorff | April 27, 2008 I admit to feeling a little like the weatherman who keeps saying it's going to rain, and who eventually is proven correct.
I feel certain that the Bush/Cheney regime is going to launch a disastrous attack on Iran, but have made several calls, which have been proved wrong, beginning back in October 2006, when I wrote that it looked like several aircraft carrier battle groups were being put in position for the assault, but then it was called off.
Now it looks like the attack is coming soon.
The Washington Post's Ann Scott Tyson is today reporting in an article headlined, Joint Chiefs Chairman Says US Preparing Military Options Against Iran, that Admiral Michael Mullen, the nation's top military officer, thinks the US military is not stretched too thin to take on Iran, and that Iran is becoming an "increasingly lethal and malign influence" in Iraq.
This article comes only a day after a US civilian ship under contract to the US military to deliver supplies to Iraq fired on Iranian boats in the Persian Gulf--just the kind of aggressive action that could lead to an Iranian reaction and trigger a full-blown US response.
The Persian Gulf is now crammed full of US attack ships, ranging from a missile-armed nuclear sub to aircraft carriers packed with tomahawk cruise missiles and fleets of attack aircraft larger than most nation's entire air forces (and also with nuclear weapons).
Other things also point to an attack, most significantly the pushing out of Adm.
William Fallon as Central Command chief, and now his replacement by Gen.
David Petraeus, who is widely seen as a "political" general who is essentially a yes-man for Bush and Cheney.
I would say the die is cast, and that it awaits only the pretext.

This is how it manifests: I decide to water my garden.
As I turn on the hose in the driveway, I look over at my car and decide it needs washing.
As I start toward the garage, I notice mail on the porch table that I brought up from the mail box earlier.
I decide to go through the mail before I wash the car.
I lay my car keys on the table, Put the junk mail in the garbage can under the table, And notice that the can is full.
So, I decide to put the bills back On the table and take out the garbage first.
But then I think, Since I'm going to be near the mailbox When I take out the garbage anyway, I may as well pay the bill first.
I take my check book off the table, And see that there is only one check left.
My extra checks are in my desk in the study, So I go inside the house to my desk where I find the cup of coffee I'd been drinking.
I'm going to look for my checks, But first I need to push the Coffee aside So that I don't accidentally knock it over.
The Coffee is getting cold, And I decide to make another cup.
As I head toward the kitchen with the cold coffee, A vase of flowers on the counter Catches my eye--they need water.
I put the Coffee on the counter and Discover my reading glasses that I've been searching for all morning.
I decide I better put them back on my desk, But first I'm going to water the flowers.
I set the glasses back down on the counter, Fill a container with water and suddenly spot the TV remote.
Someone left it on the kitchen table.
I realize that tonight when we go to watch TV, I'll be looking for the remote, But I won't remember that it's on the kitchen table, So I decide to put it back in the den where it belongs, But first I'll water the flowers.
I pour some water in the flowers, But quite a bit of it spills on the floor.
So, I set the remote back on the table, Get some towels and wipe up the spill.
Then, I head down the hall trying to Remember what I was planning to do.
At the end of the day: The car isn't washed The bills aren't paid There is a cold cup of coffee sitting on the counter The flowers don't have enough water, There is still only 1 check in my check book, I can't find the remote, I can't find my glasses, And I don't remember what I did with the car keys.
Then, when I try to figure out why nothing got done today, I'm really baffled because I know I was busy all damn day, And I'm really tired.
I realize this is a serious problem, And I'll try to get some help for it, But first I'll check my e-mail.

Nous nous sommes parlés au téléphone pendant un bon moment, et Guy-Evans se remet merveilleusement bien.
Pour un temps les pronostics n’étaient pas prometteurs mais Guy-Evans a de qui tenir. De plus, il a avec lui sa gracieuse épouse Maggy qui est une bénédiction du ciel.
Le 29 Novembre 2008 prochain Guy-Evans Ford compte célébrer ses 60 printemps.
Je compte être présent à New York pour choquer mon verre avec le sien.

Dans ces reflexions j'avais parle de la demission de la societe civile en general.
Aussi, je me rejouis enormement de te faire parvenir cette lettre ouverte de Philippe Malval au president Rene Preval, publiee recemment dans le journal LE NOUVELLISTE.
Dans sa lettre, Philippe Malval refuse d'etre lui-aussi demissionaire.
Sa lettre ouverte est une veritable prise de conscience, un cri, et surtout une prise en charge de sa personne et de ses responsabilites citoyennes vis-a-vis l'etat cahotique de son pays.
Philippe decide "d'avoir droit de cite et d'exister" par cet acte courageux, empreint d'une extreme simplicite et d'une grande sensibilite et dignite.
Mais c'est aussi avec beaucoup d'assurance et de force de caractere (que je croyais disparu de notre culture) que ce citoyen, amoureux de son pays et anime de respect pour ses concitoyens et pour ses dirigeants aussi, se dresse dans un elan patriotique et civique pour dire vaillamment "NON" a Monsieur le President Rene Preval.
Le status quo ne peux plus continuer.
Les choses doivent changer.
Nous voulons etre dirige d'une autre facon.
Philippe Malval, lui, se prend au serieux et au nom de tout ceux qui comme lui et autour de lui se prennenr au serieux il annonce au president qu'il est grand temps que lui-aussi il se prenne au serieux.

Carl j'espere que cette prise de position d'une personne aussi moderee et reservee que Philippe Malval (si le peu de memoire qui me reste me sert bien) puisse servir d'inspiration et de motivation a toute une classe d'hommes et de femmes de notre generation (parce que Philippe et moi nous sommes de la meme generation) pour qu' ils et elles puissent se reveiller, pour a leur tour dire NON, et ceci quel que soit leur degre d'amitie ou d'intimite avec Ti-Rene.
Cela ferait du bien au president Rene Preval lui-meme et cela ferait du bien au pays et au peuple haitien aussi.
Toujours pour le bien du pays et du peuple haitien, il est temps que Ti-Rene se resigne a etre le president Rene Preval.
Sinon, j'ai peine a le dire, mais la simple verite c'est qu'il ne pourra pas terminer son mandat, ce que sincerement je ne lui souhaite pas et qu'a ma facon j'essaie de lui eviter.

J'ai honte de mon silence, qui pourrait être jugé approbateur, alors qu'il n'en est rien.
Je dirai d'entrée de jeu que cette lettre ne revêt aucun caractère personnel, et que je l'aurais écrite à quiconque serait le Président à ce moment si critique de notre histoire.
Mon but n'est pas de vous critiquer négativement, comme beaucoup le font, quoi qu'il ait mille et une raisons de le faire.
Il est encore moins de vous insulter, comme certains le font, car mon éducation, le respect de l'autre et des règles de la bienséance, mon tempérament et mes principes me l'interdisent absolument.
Mon but n'est certainement pas de vous flatter.

Cependant, je suis un citoyen qui aime passionnément son pays, et qui est désespéré de le voir au fond du gouffre.
Rester passivement les bras croisés n'est plus une option.
Le seul et unique but de cette lettre est de vous poser quelques questions, et de vous faire humblement quelques suggestions.
(1) Pourquoi dites-vous qu'on vous demande de faire des miracles, « fe san sòt nan wòch » ?
Monsieur le Président, personne ne vous le demande.Tous savent que la situation est extrêmement difficile, et que quiconque à la tête de ce pays serait confronté à des problèmes effarants.
Sincèrement, je ne souhaiterais pas être à votre place.
Cependant, ce que le peuple Haïtien dans sa grande majorité vous demande, c'est de l'écouter, de lui parler, de faire ce que vous pouvez pour soulager, ne serait-ce qu'un tout petit peu, sa misère abjecte.
Votre gouvernement avait choisi les termes « apaisement social », tout à fait appropriés, et que tout le monde avait applaudis, espérant qu'il ne s'agirait pas de vains mots.
Apaisement social, Monsieur le Président, ne signifie pas seulement distribuer de l'argent et de la nourriture à ceux qui en ont désespérément besoin, créer des emplois.
Cela veut dire aussi écouter les citoyens, leur montrer que vous êtes à leur service.
Il ne suffit pas de leur répéter que vous n'aviez rien promis, et que par conséquent ils ne doivent attendre quoi que ce soit.
(2) Pourquoi ne vous adressez-vous pas régulièrement au peuple Haïtien, comme l'avait fait l'ex-Président Manigat (on se rappelle « Ti koze anba tonèl »).
Rendons justice à Monsieur Manigat, et disons que, pendant quelques mois, avec lui, on a quand même volé plus haut.
Parlez à la population, confiez-lui vos états d'âme, dites-lui à quelles difficultés vous êtes confronté.
Elle saura vous écouter, et être un peu plus patiente.
Mais attention, cette patience à des limites.
Ne vous contentez pas de lui jeter quelques mots au micro d'un journaliste, à l'occasion d'un voyage à l'étranger, ou quand les choses tournent au pire.C'est ce qui a valu l'appellation de « gouvernement pompier ».Le peuple haïtien est fondamentalement bon et peu exigeant.
Il ne faut pas beaucoup pour le contenter; par contre, il ne peut pas se contenter de rien.
(3) Pourquoi, quand les gens se plaignent à vous, vous sentez-vous obligé de vous plaindre à votre tour ?
Ce qui selon vous devrait être pris pour de la commisération est plutôt perçu comme de l'indifférence, voire même de la faiblesse.
(4) Le pouvoir de par sa nature même tend à isoler ceux qui l'exercent.
C'est tout à fait compréhensible.
Mais n'oubliez pas que, dans tous les pays, une partie de l'entourage des dirigeants s'emploie à ériger des barrières entre eux et le peuple, pour leur cacher la vérité, et ainsi obtenir qu'ils vivent dans une bulle ou « tout le monde il est beau, tout le monde il est gentil ».
Monsieur le Président, il vous suffit de lire les journaux et de suivre la radio et la télé, pour vous rendre compte que la vérité est tout autre.
Il y a dans ce pays d'excellents journalistes, qui, avec professionnalisme et objectivité, chaque jour s'attellent à leur tâche ardue et ingrate, très souvent au péril de leur vie.
Lisez-les, écoutez-les.
Vous serez édifié.
(5) Quand vous dites au peuple de passer vous chercher quand il va manifester contre le chômage, la misère, l'insécurité, vous donnez l'impression de vous moquer de lui, et d'ajouter l'insulte à l'injure.
Ceux que la faim tenaille, Monsieur le Président, n'ont pas le sens de l'humour.
C'est un luxe qu'ils ne peuvent pas se payer.
(6) Nous commettons tous des erreurs, qui que nous soyons.
Les reconnaître, s'en excuser, et les corriger, c'est être Grand.
C'est aussi apaiser.
(7) Certains leaders politiques patriotes et courageux (malheureusement, ils ne sont pas légion) vous adressent régulièrement des critiques constructives, et des suggestions.
Ne permettez pas qu'ils soient écartés.
Ecoutez-les, ils n'ont rien de personnel contre vous.
Ce ne sont pas des « ennemis de la patrie ».
Ils veulent tout simplement que les choses changent.
(8) Je travaille depuis plus de trente ans avec les jeunes universitaires de ce pays.
Je peux témoigner que la plupart sont sérieux, honnêtes, qu'ils ont une soif de savoir, qu'ils étudient dans des conditions socio-économiques désastreuses.
Ils veulent des lendemains meilleurs.
Ils y ont tout à fait droit.
Ils sont à la recherche de modèles.
Il n'y a pas exactement pléthore parmi nos dirigeants.
Récemment, nous avons eu droit à un spectacle pénible et honteux offert par certains de nos parlementaires.
Monsieur le Président, il vous revient d'apporter les redressements qui s'imposent par des sanctions sévères.
Lors de votre premier mandat, vous aviez promis de rétablir l'autorité de l'Etat.
La nation entière vous convie à faire en sorte que ces mots deviennent réalité.
(8) Pourquoi a-t-on l'impression que certaines manifestations dégénèrent seulement quand il y a quelque part une volonté qu'il en soit ainsi?
Il est assez clair que, pendant ces derniers jours, la PNH avait plutôt placé des journalistes dans les rues, qui se contentaient de rapporter les faits, pas des policiers qui devaient prendre les mesures appropriées.
Pourquoi?
Les citoyens ont droit à des réponses.
Vous, la PNH et la MINUSTAH, êtes tenus de les leur fournir.
(9) Construire des ponts, des routes, avoir des projets d'infrastructure sur un an, trois ans, dix ans et plus, tout cela est absolument nécessaire, souhaitable et louable.
Mais il y a un présent, un quotidien qui vous interpellent.
A quoi tout cela aura-t-il servi si une bonne partie de la population aura succombé à la faim et que notre environnement se sera dégradé de manière irréversible?
ASSEZ DE COMMISSIONS ET DE COLLOQUES!
ASSEZ DE BEAUX DISCOURS, OU TOUS LES MOTS EN ISME ET IQUE SONT EPUISES, ET OU DES TAS DE SUBJONCTIFS PLUS-QUE-PARFAITS Y LAISSENT LEUR PEAU.

Ayez une équipe qui travaille sur L'AUJOURD'HUI.
Exemple: dans le domaine touristique, avec seulement la sécurité et la propreté, il est possible, avec le marketing approprié, d'attirer une clientèle bien spécifique, qui recherche la différence, l'aventure, et qui pourra remplir les chambres d'hôtel dont le pays dispose, en attendant que les belles autoroutes, les Hilton et les Sheraton soient construits, ce qui amènera les touristes traditionnels.

(10) Il y a en Haïti deux groupements sociaux aux antipodes l'un de l'autre, et qui sont littéralement à couteaux tirés.
En grande partie, ils se connaissent peu, se parlent très peu, ne s'écoutent pas les rares fois où ils se parlent.
Cette méconnaissance engendre la méfiance, qui à son tour amène la haine.
Il faut créer des occasions pour que ces deux groupes se rencontrent, (ex: activités sportives, culturelles, etc.), en dehors du carnaval.
Ils apprendront à se connaître, à mieux appréhender leurs problèmes respectifs.
Cela est incontournable, et contribuera à amener aussi l'apaisement social.
Vous conviendrez que les récents événements, ainsi que celui du genre Hôtel Montana, ne sont pas faits pour arranger les choses.
(11) Passez des instructions pour que cessent les tracasseries administratives dont sont victimes les commerçants, industriels, professionnels, etc.
quand ils veulent tout simplement obtenir d'un bureau de l'Etat un service auquel ils ont droit.
Faites tout pour que dirigeants et dirigés soient des partenaires, pas des ennemis.
(12) Haïti se trouve à un carrefour de son histoire où l'opportunité vous est offerte de redresser la barque.
Donnez le ton, Monsieur le Président, le bon ton, et la réaction des gens vous étonnera.
Des milliers sont prêts à apporter leur concours BENEVOLE.
Il suffit que des signaux clairs soient donnés, indiquant une volonté irréductible de changement.
Le choix est clair pour vous: devenir un grand homme que tout le pays applaudira, ou échouer piteusement, en vous contentant tout simplement de boucler un second mandat, sans trop de casse; gravir une montagne jugée inaccessible, ou rester tristement au fond de la vallée, avec le remords de n'avoir pas su vous élever.
Des millions d'Haïtiens vous exhortent à faire le bon choix.
(13) Tous les dirigeants de tous les pays sont censés être des SERVITEURS DE L'ETAT.
La conception tribale du CHEF n'est plus de mise en 2008, hormis dans les pays où sévissent encore des dictatures féroces.
Les dirigeants sont rémunérés indirectement par les contribuables, et c'est à eux qu'ils doivent avant tout rendre des comptes.
Aucun dirigeant ne doit jamais l'oublier.
(14) Imaginez quelqu'un qui demande: "fè m jwen yon ti mayi moulen, mwen grangou", et qu'on lui réponde qu' il ne peut avoir du maïs aujourd'hui, mais qu'on lui permettra de manger régulièrement homard et filet dans trois mois.
Tout cela est très joli.
Cependant, dans trois mois, il ne sera plus vivant.
Gérer le présent est incontournable.
Les derniers événements l'ont prouvé éloquemment.
(15) Il n'est pas anormal dans tout pays qu'un parti politique veuille garder le pouvoir le plus longtemps possible.
Cependant, la manière d'atteindre cet objectif est parfois complètement inorthordoxe.
Monsieur le Président, j'ignore si vous aimez le pouvoir et si vous vous y accrochez à n'importe quel prix.
Cependant, si vous montrez à vos concitoyens que vous prenez leur cas en considération, que vous résolvez quelques-uns de leur myriade de problèmes, je vous assure qu'ils vous en seront reconnaissants, et que vous et votre parti garderez le pouvoir.
